Rehearsals start September 5!

From Carey:

We are 3 weeks away from our first rehearsal of the 2017-2018 season and I could not be more excited for the music this year! For our December 9 concert in Sterling we will perform “Christmas Fantasy” – Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols with baritone and cello, Mid-Winter Songs by Morten Lauridsen with our fantastic accompanist, Susan Minor, and Edward Elgar’s stunning The Snow featuring violin duet. Lauridsen is a contemporary American composer with a distinct voice but his Mid-Winter Songs present a more nuanced setting of text by Robert Graves and the piano solo will leave you speechless. Both Vaughan Williams and Elgar are English composers of the turn of the 20th century bridging the 19th century Romantic style of rich chords and stunning harmony and 20th century British music that features clarity in music and the traditional “English Choral Music”. This is robust and exciting music that will launch us into the winter season!

On May 13 we will present “Springtime in Vienna” featuring Schubert’s Mirjamsiegesgesang (we’ll sing in German but the title in English is Miriam’s Song of Triumph), Mozart Laudate Dominum from his Vespers and hopefully a little bit of Haydn!

Please see recordings for all of the winter repertoire and a link to practice tracks for the RVW Fantasia on Christmas Carols below. We hope to see you at our first rehearsal on Tuesday, September 5 or in the audience in the winter.

Elgar The Snow (SSA version but VERY good. It’s hard to find a great SATB version so we might just have to upload our own!)
