Harvard Pro Musica Leadership Information :
Mark Bennett, PhD:
Dr. Bennett received his Bachelor of Arts in Music at California State University in Stanislaus in 1978, and went on to earn his Masters in Music, German, and History, the next year, also at Cal State. He spent a year on a Rotary Foundation Fellowship in Vocal and Choral Studies at the Hochschule de Künste, in Berlin, and completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Music at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has conducted choruses in Arkansas, Wisconsin and California, including the 115-member Fresno Community Chorus. He has taught at California State University, Fresno; Arkansas Tech University; Alverno Women's College in Milwaukee; and has been an active choral-vocal clinician and adjudicator. He is currently returning from a brief sabbatical from music teaching and performance, and Harvard Pro Musica is very fortunate to have him.
"My interest in music," he says, "comes from a very passionate, very visceral, and yet, very intellectual reaction to the music. Once I hear it and once I study it, I'm compelled to communicate what I feel about it with others."
